What is Commercial Driving Fundamentals Online Training?

Commercial Driving Fundamentals (CDF) is an innovative online training program spearheaded by the Canada Safety Council (CSC), designed to elevate safety standards for Class 1/A drivers across the nation. Developed in partnership with Bluedrop ISM, a leader in transportation training solutions, and funded by the Government of Canada’s Skills for Success Program, the initiative leverages the CSC’s expertise and unwavering commitment to delivering vital transportation safety programs for the benefit of all Canadians.

CDF builds on the success of Driver for Hire Online Training and focuses on enhancing the skills, safety, and overall performance of commercial drivers. This advanced program features a certificate curriculum track along with nine optional courses and offers a variety of features and benefits. Employers, Driving Schools, and Non-Profit Groups can register and gain access to the valuable training with a click of a button! Simply complete the applicable employer or school/non-profit form on this page to connect with our team to get started!

Why Become a CDF Select Partner Organization?

Can I register for the training as an individual driver?

At this time the training is being made available to employers, driving schools, and non-profit training organizations to share with their class 1/A drivers and students. Individual drivers should discuss the training with their employer and encourage them to access the no-cost training, or find a training school that offers the training by contacting adoptionteam@bluedrop.com

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple! Employers and driving schools/non-profit training agencies can start the registration process by submitting your information in the applicable form on this page. You’ll then be contacted by our support team to set you up and discuss the process and available incentives for you and your drivers! You can also simply email us at adoptionteam@bluedrop.com

How much does it cost?

There is no cost to the training during the pilot phase (until March 31, 2025) as it is fully funded by the Government of Canada’s Skills for Success Program during this time. The training is however valued at a price of approximately $120 plus tax per person. Pricing may be changed at any time without notice.

What languages is the course available in?

How does the employer recognition program work?

Who developed and endorsed the training?

CDF was developed by the Canada Safety Council in conjunction with Bluedrop ISM’s eLearning design team, subject matter experts, and curated content on safe driving, regulations, and customer service. Furthermore, this training includes content from the Government of Canada’s Skills for Success Program.

How is it different than Class 1/A license training?

Do I need to have a Class 1/A license to take the training?

No. This training can be taken prior to or after your Provincial Class 1/A driving requirements have been met, and license has been obtained. CDF is NOT a substitute for obtaining an Provincially endorsed Class 1/A drivers license.

Do you have to complete the course all at once?

No, drivers can complete the training at their own pace! However, we do recommend that drivers finish the training as soon as possible to maximize knowledge retention, and to make sure they earn their certificates fast! In addition, applicable honorariums are only valid while quantities last and for a limited time as outlined by the adoption team during employer set up. Be sure to check with the adoption team on set up and ensure your drivers complete the training in time to receive their honorariums.

How do I get back in to continue the training where I left off?

Drivers simply sign in to their secure SkillsPass account that they will have created prior to starting the training- HERE. Then, click ‘start learning’ on the course tile in the ‘To Do’ section to continue training.

How do I access my digital certificate once I complete my training?

To access, view, or share your completed certificate, simply sign in to your secure portal account HERE.

Is there a test?

There are knowledge checks and quizzes to test your knowledge throughout the various course modules.
